21 September 2020Novak Djoković king of Rome for the fifth time.

The Serbian, number 1 in the world and on the Bnl Internazionali d'Italia scoreboard, beats Diego Sebastiàn Schwartzman 7-5 6-3 in the final of the Foro Italico.

The Serbian, 33 years old, 17 Grand Slam titles in the palmarès, was in the tenth final on the red clay of the capital.

The Argentine, 28, with three career ATP titles, currently number 47 in the ranking, fails to replicate the great matches against Nadal in the quarterfinals and the Canadian Shapovalov in the semifinals, won in three hard-fought sets.

Schwartzman starts well and makes two breaks and goes 3-0.

Djoković, however, rises again, makes four games in a row and the decisive break at 6-5.

Nobody holds the serve in the first two games of the second set.

It goes on blow by blow until the Serbian snatches the opponent's serve in the eighth game and goes 5-3, then maintaining the service in the next game and closing the match in an hour and 53 minutes.

The women's final of the Foro Italico lasts only 31 '.

The Romanian Simona Halep, number 1 of the tournament, wins for the withdrawal of the Czech Karolina Pliskova, n.2, on the score of 6-0 2-1 for the Romanian.

Pliskova was outgoing champion.

For Halep this is the first title in the Capitoline tournament after two finals lost in 2017 and 2018.

It was immediately understood that something was wrong for Pliskova (showy bandage on the left leg).

The first set slips away in a coat (20 '), then the abandonment after three games of the second.

For the Czech, perhaps a precautionary withdrawal in view of Roland Garros in Paris, starting on the 27th.
