The pandemic has affected the hospitality industry severely and they have led to increased unemployment and reduced job growth in the Gothenburg region.

Peter Warda, an analyst at Business Region Gothenburg, believes that it is primarily the young people who are affected.

- The hospitality industry is having a very tough time right now and here we also see how important the sector is for the region's employment, among other things by employing young people, he says.

Get bankrupt

According to Business Region Gothenburg, the economy has improved but is still below the limit that is considered "weaker than normal".

In the last eight months, the number of bankruptcies has increased compared to the same period last year, although not as much as might be expected.

- The number of bankruptcies in the Gothenburg region is 32 more, which corresponds to a percentage increase of only 7 percent.

There are remarkably few considering covid-19, says Henrik Einarsson, head of analysis at Business Region Gothenburg.

The tourism and hospitality industry in Gothenburg and the surrounding municipalities is estimated to have lost 14 billion this year.
