Algeria announced on Sunday its intention not to renew the contract with a French company that has been in charge of operating and maintaining the capital's metro system since 2011.

The Algiers Metro Corporation (governmental) stated - in a statement - that the contract for the operation and maintenance of the Algiers metro with the RATP Paris company officially ends on October 31.

She added that the contract for the French company will not be renewed, and it will be replaced by another 100% Algerian owned by Algeria Metro Corporation.

And it stated that all existing labor relations will continue with the new company, while preserving the same salaries, rights and social benefits for workers, and called on the workers and employees of the company to ensure a smooth transition of tasks to it.

The contract was signed with the "Ratebe Paris" company in 2007, but the start of its actual activity was in November 2011, after the inauguration of the first metro line in the capital.

The company "Ratebe Paris" specializes in railway and metro transport, and manages, operates and operates this type of passenger transport in the French capital, Paris and its suburbs.

The Algiers metro includes two lines linking the city center with its eastern and southern suburbs, and they are currently being expanded.

And the activity of the capital's metro has been stopped, since the end of last March, as part of government measures to limit the spread of the Corona virus.

Algeria has spent $ 2 billion and 90 million to overcome the repercussions of the new Corona virus, according to what Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed yesterday.
