In the aftermath of the death of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Donald Trump wants to appoint a new judge to the Supreme Court, "without delay".

And, preferably, the American president would like to install a woman.

He already has three favorites.

Three women are among the supposed favorites of US President Donald Trump to join the US Supreme Court, the day after the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

First there is Amy Coni Barrett, 48, judge in Indiana, devout Catholic, mother of seven and in favor of removing subsidies for contraception or abortion.

Then there is Barbara Lagoa, 52, lawyer, American-Cuban and who distinguished herself last week by restricting the vote of former Florida detainees.

Finally, there is Joan Larsen, 51, magistrate at the court of appeal and who stood out for her opposition to the extension of gay rights.

"Very disturbing" profiles

Conservative and even reactionary profiles according to Gérard Araud, former French ambassador to Washington who considers the profiles of the supposed favorites of the American president to be "very worrying".

"Many subjects are treated by the American Supreme Court", recalls the diplomat who explains that the right to abortion, for example, "results from a decision of the Supreme Court, just like same-sex marriage".

"If there is another Republican judge in a Court which is already fairly conservative, it will be an opportunity to reconsider this kind of rights", warns Gérard Araud.

This appointment is also an opportunity for Donald Trump to leave his mark on the Supreme Court for decades.

Judges are appointed for life within the highest jurisdiction of the United States.
