The tenacious agreement on the Chinese-owned video app Tiktok's being or not in the US now seems to be close to a solution.

A spokesman for Tiktok, which is owned by Chinese Bytedance, told the news agency AFP that:

"We are pleased to say that the proposed deal between Tiktok, Oracle and Walmart will resolve the security concerns of the US Government and resolve Tiktok's future in the United States."

The software company Oracle will be the technical supplier and responsible for how US user data is stored.

The large Walmart chain will become a "commercial partner".

Must be approved

In order for the deal to be completed, it must first be approved by the White House and the CFIUS authority.

The first step seems to have been completed, as President Trump has already said that he likes "the fantastic deal".

- I have given the business my blessing.

If they get it, it's fantastic, if not, it's okay too, Trump says.

The deal must also be approved by China.

"We'll see if it happens or not," Trump said.

Exact details about the deal are not known, but according to Tiktok, the company will build its global headquarters in the US and the deal is said to create 25,000 new jobs in the country.

According to Donald Trump, a completely new company will be formed, with headquarters in Texas.

Trump says the new company will have nothing to do with China, but that the app will continue to be called Tiktok.

Postpones ban

The confirmation comes a day before the deadline for a ban on the app in the US would take effect.

Trump has previously signed two presidential orders banning Tiktok in the United States.

They were later revised somewhat and on Friday the White House decided that a total ban on downloading or updating Tiktok and the similarly Chinese-owned app Wechat in the US would be introduced on Sunday.

Following Tiktok's new announcement, the ban was postponed for a week, until 27 September.

However, users can use the app until November 12.

Tiktok is today one of the world's most popular apps, with hundreds of millions of users.

But it has come into focus due to the fact that it collects large amounts of information about its users, which in many cases consist of middle-aged children.

Trump believes that the company's close links to the Chinese dictatorship make it a security threat.

On Saturday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce responded by condemning what they call bullying by the United States and claiming that the United States violates international trade standards and that there is no evidence of security breaches.
