Al-Jazeera correspondent in Amman said that the Jordanian judicial authorities decided today to arrest the executive director of the election campaign of the Islamic Action Front, Badi Al-Rafaia, on charges of insulting and insulting the president of a friendly country.

Abdelkader Al-Khatib, Al-Rafaya’s lawyer, told Al-Jazeera that the arrest came against the background of a post on his Facebook page for Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The lawyer deplored the arrest of the Executive Director of the Electoral Action Front Party Committee at this time, especially since political parties are holding consultations regarding the upcoming parliamentary elections.

For its part, the Labor Front denounced the arrest of Al-Rafaia, and said that the aforementioned publication dates back to previous years.

In a statement, the party said that what the government is doing at this time - which is witnessing the arrangements for the electoral process - consecrates "the approach of martial law and the policy of escalation practiced by the state."
