The so-called audit will run until October 28 and will be the third to be carried out during the pandemic.

Previous audits have taken place in May-June and August-September this year.

Auditing workers travel mainly from different parts of Sweden but also other countries such as Germany.

Forsmark's nuclear power plant, which is located in Östhammar municipality, normally has around 1,200 employees and will be significantly more during the audits.

Could not the audits have been postponed until after the pandemic?

- It is not known how long the pandemic will last and the reactors need to be equipped for the coming operating season.

Forsmark supplies Sweden with one-sixth of the electricity needs that exist, says Josef Nylén, press manager at Forsmark's nuclear power plant.

Suspected covid-19 in previous audit

In connection with similar maintenance work in the mine in Gällivare, there was a large infection cluster this summer.

At the first audit in May in Forsmark, an audit worker who had not yet had time to start work was picked up by ambulance from the staff accommodation with suspected covid-19.

Forsmark does not comment on individual cases of illness, but the press manager states that the infection has occurred among employees.

- We have had isolated cases of corona, but no outbreak, no cluster.

It has been individual employees who have become ill.

Very few cases.

We are happy about that.

"Keep your distance"

- We believe that it has to do with the fact that we have been good at keeping to the rules we have and keeping our distance, says Josef Nylén, press manager, Forsmark's nuclear power plant.

There has been concern among staff about bringing in so many external auditors for the three audits.

How do you view that concern?

- You must have respect for the fact that people are worried, but we are also confident that the measures we have taken work well and this is also shown by the two previous audits - as we have not had a large spread of infection.

On the contrary, we have had low sickness rates and have been good at protecting each other.

It is important that we continue to take responsibility even now for the last time.
