A number of members of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), including armed men, demonstrated in the town of Al-Ram, north of occupied Jerusalem, against the dismissed leader of the movement, Muhammad Dahlan.

The demonstrators accused Dahlan of working for the Israeli occupation, rejecting what they described as alienation in Jerusalem.

These demonstrations come days after an Israeli newspaper published what it said were statements by the US ambassador to Israel about the possibility of replacing President Mahmoud Abbas with Muhammad Dahlan, before the Israeli newspaper and the US embassy made it clear that the statements were not true.

The gunmen shot in the air and expressed their rejection of what they called the American "arrogance", chanting strong language against Dahlan, and chanting in solidarity with Jerusalem, "Jerusalem is Arab", and chanting victory for the "Fatah Youth" movement.

The march, led by local Fatah leaders and masked gunmen, roamed the country's streets.
