The latest report published on Friday by the health authorities shows a clear deterioration in the health situation in France.

In total, 123 deaths were observed in 24 hours, more than double that of Thursday (50 deaths in 24 hours), for a total of 31,249 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

13,215 new cases were also recorded within 24 hours, a new record after more than 10,000 new infections on Thursday.

Other worrying figures: 850 people were hospitalized in one day, and 100 patients were admitted to intensive care.

Reinforced measures in Nice, announcements expected Saturday for Lyon

Faced with the worsening of the situation, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced Thursday that the government had asked the prefects of the Rhône and the Alpes-Maritimes to present new local measures by Saturday to stem the epidemic in Nice and Lyon.

In the Riviera capital, measures fell late Friday morning: no more aperitifs on the beach after 8 p.m., and picnics for more than ten in the gardens and parks.

The city's drinking establishments will also have to close at half past midnight and take-out sales and the consumption of alcohol in public spaces will be prohibited after 8 p.m.

Finally, large gatherings cannot exceed 1,000 people.

In Paris, we fear these new measures, especially on the side of bar and restaurant owners, and in events.

More than 946,000 deaths worldwide, increased contamination

The pandemic accelerated markedly this week, with 286,000 new cases recorded per day worldwide, 8% more than the previous week.

As in recent weeks, it is in Europe that the rate of contamination is accelerating the most (+ 16% compared to the previous week).

The number of new daily cases there has tripled since the beginning of July (47,300 this week, against about 15,000).

More than 30 million cases of the new coronavirus have been officially recorded worldwide, according to a count made by AFP.

In total, at least 30,218,930 cases, including 946,727 deaths, have been reported.

The United States remains the most bereaved country with at least 198,469 dead.

Next come Brazil (135,793 dead), India (84,372), Mexico (72,179) and the United Kingdom (41,705).

India is the country that has recorded the most deaths in the past week (1,160 per day), ahead of the United States (840), Brazil (770), Mexico (360), Argentina ( 220), Colombia (200) and Iran (140).

Tightening of restrictions and re-containment in several countries

In several countries, health measures are tightening in the face of increased contamination.

The most spectacular measure undoubtedly comes from

Israel

, where the population has been forced to reconfigure for a minimum of three weeks since Friday.

The Hebrew state is the country with the highest rate of contamination in the past two weeks.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reported on Thursday a "worrying increase in contamination and the number of seriously ill patients" to justify this confinement scheduled to last three weeks and which coincides with the Jewish holiday season.

Between Thursday evening and Friday noon, Israel recorded 5,238 new cases of contamination, a record.

In Europe, where the number of new cases is now higher than those recorded in March and April, the level of transmission is deemed "alarming" by the World Health Organization (WHO), and has led the authorities in several countries to tighten up the opinion.

In

Spain

, the Madrid region has imposed drastic restrictions in an attempt to stem the epidemic.

858,000 people, or 13% of the capital's population, living in disadvantaged southern neighborhoods, can only leave their neighborhood for essential reasons such as going to work, going to the doctor or taking their children to school.

New restrictions came into force in north-east

England

on

Friday

, affecting two million people.

Meetings between people from different homes are prohibited, a curfew is applied from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. in places of entertainment.

The British government does not rule out resorting to a new general containment for all of England, if local measures are not enough.

Tightening of the rules in

Ireland

too, where the government announced Friday that only pubs and restaurants in the capital serving food out will be able to remain open, the others having to be satisfied with sales to go.

This is the second tightening of restrictions in Dublin in a week, decided following a resurgence of Covid cases.
