Influenza infection decreased by 90% due to "Corona" measures

Influenza cases have decreased by 90% in the United States due to closure, social distancing, and wearing a mask due to the Corona pandemic, according to a news report.

The flu test rates according to laboratory tests decreased from 20% between September 2019 to February 2020, to 2.3% between March 2020 and May 2020.

The results show that the number of samples sent to laboratories has decreased by more than 60%, while families remain at home and children are learning from a distance.

According to the report, the researchers collected information from 300 laboratories distributed over the fifty states, Puerto Rico, Guam and Washington, DC.

They compared the time period between the declaration of the Corona pandemic as a national emergency in the United States, that is, the period between September 29, 2019, and February 29, 2020 prior to the declaration of the pandemic, and from March 1, 2020, to May 16, 2020 after the announcement.

By the beginning of March, positive test rates had dropped to 14.9% and then declined by 90% over the next four weeks.

The number of tests completed in the laboratories decreased from 49,696 a week before the declaration of the pandemic to 19537 a week after the announcement.

And such a decline occurred in other countries such as Australia, Chile and South Africa, according to the report.

The researchers who prepared the report say that the decrease is due to precautionary measures that were aimed at preventing the outbreak of the Corona epidemic.

These researchers said that it is important to vaccinate against influenza for all people over the age of six months to prevent outbreaks of influenza.
