About 20% of intensive care beds are occupied by patients with Covid-19 in Île-de-France, said on Europe 1 Saturday Aurélien Rousseau, the director general of the regional health agency (ARS), who is expects "high tension in 15 days / 3 weeks".
He also specifies that from Monday, 20 new screening centers will be opened in the region: two per department and 6 in Paris "given the density".
"In Île-de-France, we are making progress, with 2,500 people with Covid in hospital and 250 in intensive care, this means that around 20% of intensive care beds are occupied by people with Covid", he detailed.
If the progression is "slow", "these are important figures", he believes, with 27 new patients admitted to intensive care the day before.
"Resuscitation in this new phase is better targeted on severe cases", with "a decrease in the average duration of hospitalization in intensive care", but he anticipates all the same "a very great tension in 15 days / 3 weeks" with the risk of "having to wonder about deprogramming (of operations) targeted".
On the screening capacities, he estimated that if the quantitative progression was "impressive", the number of tests going from 45,000 in June to 230,000 last week in the region, "we lost in quality, in respect of priority people" .
"This is what we are putting in order," he said, mentioning the 20 new centers.
"We will be able to give the results in 24 hours for priority people", that is to say those who are referred by the doctor, who have symptoms, are contact cases, and health personnel and nursing homes, he clarified.
"Our goal is to continue to provide these tests on a massive scale but to assume that when you have no symptoms, when you have not been in contact with a sick person, you can wait 5 or 6 days before have a test, "he says.
