China News Service, Taipei, September 19-An explosion accident occurred in a residential building in Taichung City, Taiwan in the early hours of the 19th, killing 4 people and injuring 1 person.

It is preliminarily judged to be a natural gas explosion.

  The Central News Agency, "United Daily News", and China Times News reported that at about 4:17 in the morning that day, an explosion occurred in a rental apartment building in the Donghai Commercial District, Longjing District, Taichung City, causing 6 houses to catch fire and many vehicles were parked nearby. Cars and motorcycles were blown up.

  The local fire brigade inspected the fire site and found that the floor of the gas explosion site collapsed and the walls were squeezed and deformed.

As of 9 a.m., firefighters had found 4 bodies, 3 adults and 1 child. The child and two of the adults were a family of three.

The injured was a 38-year-old man with a laceration on his right leg and was sent to hospital for treatment.

  People at the scene said that when the fire broke out, they felt the building vibrated and could hear the explosion, as if an earthquake occurred.

  The cause of the gas explosion remains to be investigated.

Search and rescue work is in progress.
