The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the European Union to reconsider the course towards Belarus.

According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, the EU, “hiding behind imaginary care,” is trying to decide for the inhabitants of Belarus how to live.

In addition, the diplomat noted that “the stake on the replacement of the current government by means of sanctions, pressure and propaganda is more and more consolidated in the foreign policy arsenal of the European Union,” and the situation in Belarus is far from the only confirmation of this.

Zakharova also pointed to "disrespect for objective internal political realities" and "unrestrained support of the opposition forces, up to and including the recognition of" impostors "by individual EU member states."

“We call on the European Union to reconsider this course, which leads to the erosion of the international legal foundation of the world order, and in the case of Belarus, prevents normalization in the country,” the Foreign Ministry said in an official response to a question from journalists about the EU’s policy towards Belarus.

The diplomat also commented on the information that ex-presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya may take part in the meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU countries.

According to Zakharova, such a step, if implemented, will become part of the scenario of interference in the internal affairs of Belarus.

“The flirting of the EU foreign ministers with the self-appointed representative of the Belarusian opposition and inviting her to Brussels“ for communication ”is an integral part of the scenario of interference in the internal affairs of Belarus.

This is a direct violation of the fundamental norms of the UN Charter and the principles of the Helsinki Final Act of the CSCE, ”- stressed the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“We consider such a contact, if it takes place, as another evidence of the EU's departure from earlier statements about the absence of geopolitics in the situation with Belarus and any parallels with the February 2014 scenario in Ukraine,” Zakharovoy added.

According to the diplomat, this point of view is confirmed by the statements of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell about the non-recognition of Alexander Lukashenko by Brussels as the elected President of Belarus.

The Russian Foreign Ministry also pointed out that the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on September 17 contains an actual call for an unconstitutional change of power in this country.

On the eve it became known that the former candidate for the presidency of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya on September 21 will visit the European Parliament and will meet there with the President of the EP David Sassoli.

It is expected that Tikhanovskaya will meet with the deputies of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and discuss the events in Belarus.

Later, RIA Novosti, citing Tikhanovskaya's press secretary, Anna Krasulina, was informed that the ex-presidential candidate would also speak at a meeting of EU foreign ministers.

Tikhanovskaya herself said on the eve that the situation in the republic requires immediate attraction of "international attention."

In addition, the Belarusian opposition coordinating council is forming a group for negotiations with the current authorities of Belarus, which the opposition has called the "outgoing regime."

“The final goal of this group is to discuss the procedure for transferring power and hand it over, respectively, to Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and the government that has formed around her,” Krasulina commented on the tasks of the group.

RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

Let us remind you that presidential elections were held in Belarus on August 9.

According to the Central Election Commission, the current head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, won with 80.1% of the voters.

Second place was taken by Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who received 10.1% of the votes.

After the publication of the preliminary results of the elections in Belarus, large-scale protests began.

The protesters demanded Lukashenka's resignation from the post of head of state and new elections.

Members of the coordination council formed by the opposition demanded the same.

Against the background of reports of Tikhanovskaya's plans to speak in Brussels, the press secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry Anatoly Glaz said that the possible meeting of the EU Foreign Ministers with the ex-presidential candidate of Belarus is “impudent and open interference in the country's internal affairs” and “complete disrespect for its citizens” ...

“Why hold elections at all, if you can simply appoint from the outside some convenient subject in all respects and pretend that you are building a relationship with him?

After such steps, in my opinion, no one will need to prove that a course is being implemented to undermine the sovereignty of Belarus, ”BelTA quotes Glaza.
