This spring, it looked pitch black ahead of the tourist season in the mountains.

The cancellations came in a steady stream and a bankruptcy threat hung over the Swedish Tourist Association.

But then the Swedish Public Health Agency opened for travel within Sweden from 13 June at the same time as the borders to many countries were closed to Swedish tourists.

This brightened the situation at the Swedish Tourist Association's station in Abisko and many other mountain resorts.

Adapted staff

Above all, many new or old visitors have sought refuge in the mountains.

- You could not go to Singapore or Paris and then you chose to travel to a mountain environment instead, says Jessica Milkévitz, director of Abisko tourist station.

The loss of foreign guests is still noticeable and the facility has had to adjust its staff accordingly, from 70 employees in a normal summer to between 25 and 50 this summer.

Now Jessica Milkévitz hopes that those who have discovered the mountains for the first time will return.
