Among the gear dealers and suppliers of fishing equipment that SVT Nyheter Västmanland spoke to, an unequivocal picture emerges: more fish during the corona pandemic and more people buy fishing equipment, baits, clothes and other accessories.
Some goods have also run out.
Partly because of the great demand, but also because suppliers had problems producing at the pace they want during the coronan pandemic.
- There has been a real increase in fishing interest and has been affected very positively, some goods have even run out with us and our suppliers, says Anders Ekman at Willys sport fishing in Västerås.
"Chopped the best"
Elvin Gustafsson from Surahammar fishes several times a week and he thinks that more people should try fishing.
- When you get a bite, it's the best, and then you get to be out in nature and by the water.
I like that, says Elvin Gustafsson.
Families fish
The gear trade sees many families coming in and wanting to start fishing.
- There are many more new people and families coming in, as well as people who fished when they were younger and who now want to take it up again, says Patrik Virenius, store manager Sportfiskeboden in Västerås.
- It is hoped that people will keep their newfound interest in the future as well, says Anders Ekman.
