• Supreme Court. Separatism camouflages its differences to wrap Quim Torra in his "war" against the State

  • Opinion.Torra before the Supreme Court and the last trap against ERC, by Iñaki Ellakuría

The

Supreme Court

has begun to review this Thursday the sentence imposed on the president of the Generalitat

Quim Torra

for a crime of disobedience by refusing to remove the yellow ties in favor of the 1-0 prisoners from the Government buildings during the electoral period.

The cassation hearing has started with the intervention of Torra's defense, the lawyer

Gonzalo Boye

, who after 12:05 hours has exposed that his client was not tried by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia by an "impartial" court .

Boye has indicated - before the Chamber presided over by Judge

Andrés Martínez Arrieta

- that Torra has not enjoyed a process with all the guarantees when being tried for these facts.

Likewise, Boye has argued that the placement of the banner is a political act that would be framed in freedom of expression.

"Freedom from political prisoners is a literal reproduction of Mr. Torra's political speech," said his lawyer, who in turn maintained that the order of the Central Electoral Board "could not be carried out" because they did not come from a higher authority and was incompetent to sanction it. .

The president, who will not intervene directly in the Plenary Hall of the High Court, is present at the hearing.

In his capacity as authority, Torra is sitting on the first bench of the majestic Hall, which he had not stepped on since he attended the 1-O trial as a public.

The president of the Generalitat acceded to the Supreme Court about twenty minutes before the hearing will begin through the main door, accompanied by the vice president of the Generalitat,

Pere Aragonés

, and the Catalan Minister of the Presidency,

Meritxell Budó.

In December 2019, the TSJC sentenced Quim Torra to a year and a half of disqualification from public office for a crime of disobedience for not removing the yellow ties that the

Central Electoral Board

considered as partisan symbols.

During the trial in Catalonia, the president admitted disobedience to the Central Electoral Board (JEC).
