  • Map: The areas of Madrid with the most infections

The Minister of Health, Enrique Ruiz Escudero, has affirmed that, given the "sustained growth of the pandemic" in Madrid, his Department is working on measures to "restrict mobility and reduce activity" in the areas of greatest transmission of the virus.

For his part, the vice president of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio Aguado, assured today that it is "necessary and urgent" for the Government of Pedro Sánchez to "get involved" to stop the second wave of the pandemic in Madrid.

Hospitals in the region already exceed 20% occupancy by Covid -40% in the case of UCIS- and yesterday exceeded the barrier of 1,500 daily infections.

"It is necessary and urgent for the Government of Spain to

get involved in the control of the pandemic in Madrid and so I have transferred it to the president, who has my full support," Aguado assured in an appearance without questions at the headquarters of the Regional government in Puerta del Sol.

"It is absolutely impossible to end an epidemic of these characteristics only from a regional government," said Aguado, who yesterday did not offer his usual press conference after the Government Council after the Deputy Minister of Health, Antonio Zapatero, affirmed by the Tomorrow the Ayuso government is studying "selective confinements", something that

was later denied by other sources in the Executive, who spoke only of "restrictions on mobility."

"The situation in Madrid is not going well, we are going to need to make more efforts, but let's not lower our arms. Although the situation is getting worse we are on time. We need a political truce, to stop teasing, to point to each other," he has said Aguado, who has asked

"to abandon the scuffles, drop the guns and offer joint solutions."
