China News Agency, Washington, September 17-Cui Tiankai, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, recently said in a dialogue with former U.S. Treasury Secretary Paulson that China has always hoped to develop a constructive cooperative relationship with the United States rather than a confrontational relationship.

"As long as the two sides have sufficient political will, Sino-US cooperation will be promising."

On August 28th, Cui Tiankai was invited to participate in the "Dialogue Paulson" podcast interview program hosted by Paulson to exchange views on current Sino-US relations, bilateral economic and trade cooperation, international governance, and China's economic situation.

The content of the interview was broadcast on September 14.

In reviewing the development of Sino-US relations, Cui Tiankai said that China has always hoped to develop constructive and cooperative relations with the United States rather than confrontational relations. It hopes that bilateral relations are based on mutual respect, mutual understanding, accommodating each other's concerns, and mutual benefit.

"This is the nature of Sino-US relations since President Nixon and Dr. Kissinger visited China. It has never fundamentally changed."

Cui Tiankai went on to say that China-US relations have also undergone great changes, becoming richer, deeper, more complex, and more comprehensive.

The two sides have cooperated in many areas that were unimaginable in the early years.

"Speaking from facts, some differences between China and the United States will exist for a long time. We must admit that due to differences in historical and cultural traditions, political and economic systems, differences between China and the United States are inevitable. But we must properly handle these in a constructive manner. Disagreement."

Cui Tiankai emphasized that Sino-US relations are indeed complicated, and sometimes there are differences on some issues.

Fortunately, the two sides have managed their differences well for a long time.

But the current situation is worrying and even vigilant. Some people in the United States try to break through the "red line", which will bring serious consequences.

"I hope people can learn from the past decades of history."

Cui Tiankai pointed out that looking back over the past 40 to 50 years of history, both China and the United States have properly handled national security issues while deepening and expanding bilateral relations.

"I don't think that the national security interests of China and the United States have been damaged by the development of bilateral relations. In fact, the development of bilateral relations is conducive to national security."

He further explained that if you communicate with each other more and more, the two sides can better understand each other and know how the other side thinks, how the other side thinks, and the other side's strengths and weaknesses.

"Only then will you know how to deal with each other, how to reduce risks, and how to promote mutually beneficial cooperation. This should be the valuable experience we have learned from the past 40 to 50 years. Why should we change it?"

Cui Tiankai believes that looking forward to the future, China and the United States are facing huge opportunities to strengthen cooperation and build stronger bilateral relations. The first is to cooperate in the fight against the epidemic, cooperate in the development of vaccines and therapeutic drugs, work hard to save lives, protect people's livelihood and employment, restore economic growth, and restore the world's confidence in future economic development prospects. Second, the two sides must resume coordination and cooperation on global challenges such as climate change and regional hotspot issues such as the Korean nuclear issue and Iranian nuclear issue. As long as the two sides have sufficient political will, Sino-US cooperation will be promising. (Finish)
