A burglar managed to steal in Hong Kong, in broad daylight, a collection of stamps and calligraphy estimated at 435 million euros, according to information revealed on Wednesday from a police source.

The thief managed to break into an apartment owned by Chinese collector Fu Chunxiao.

The latter lives in a 16-story building in the bustling district of Kowloon.

The burglar committed his daring theft in two hours, the source said.

reports that the total value of these valuables is four billion Hong Kong dollars (435 million euros).

The loot notably includes a calligraphy by Mao Tse-tung and five very precious old stamps.

A member of the Hong Kong Philatelic Society, Fu Chinxiao was in mainland China at the time of the heist on September 10, according to the police source.

reports that their value was not established until her daughter returned to Hong Kong to assist investigators.
