16 September 2020Miguel Angel Lopez tames the fifth and last uphill arrival, the hardest, of this Tour de France, distancing, but not too much (15 "), the Roglic yellow jersey. Third place for Pogacar who loses something from his compatriot. in fact, the Slovenian Primoz Roglic is still in command. The margin over Pogacar rises to 57 ", while in third place is settled by Miguel Angel Lopez, at 1'26". This is the result of the seventeenth stage of the Grande Boucle, 170km in the Alps from Grenoble to Meribel Col de la Loze.

On the Col de la Madeleine the men at the top mark very closely.

Carapaz, Alaphilippe, Martin and Izagirre take a minute, or a little more, to pass the summit in that order.

Downhill Martin gets lost, the three leaders increase the margin to 2'30 "and begin the 21.5 km at 7.8% average gradient (with peaks of 24%) that leads to the finish line of the Col de la Loze, the new 'monster of the Tour'. Alaphilippe is the first to give up, then it's Izaguirre's turn. Mikel Landa sets the pace with his teammates (including Damiano Caruso), but gives in on the hardest part. Carapaz stands alone until at -3 km, when Miguel Angel Lopez sprints and challenges Roglic. The yellow jersey keeps on sight, Pogacar breaks away.



Before the start of the stage Egan Bernal retired. The Colombian, winner of the last edition, had often gone into crisis in recent days.
