• Budgets. Citizens urge Sánchez to choose: accounts "conditioned by those who want to break Spain" or "for all Spaniards"

Pedro Sánchez is moving away, at least for the moment, from his investiture allies and leaves in the hands of the second vice president, Pablo Iglesias, the leading role in the first stages of negotiation of the State Budgets with ERC and EH Bildu.

Iglesias will contact tomorrow with the parliamentary representatives of the Republican pro-independence party and the Abertzale formation in a first attempt to attract them to the future project, still unknown, of the general accounts.

This was announced by the spokesman in the ERC Congress, Gabriel Rufián.

The President of the Government prefers to ignore, at least for the public, the negotiations with these formations.

His decision has immediately raised diverse interpretations.

While some believe that he sends a wink to Ciudadanos, a formation clearly willing to agree on the accounts with Sánchez as long as he moves away from the conditions imposed by the independentists, others, on the contrary, believe that his willingness to give entry to nationals already and Catalan republicans in a negotiation that still does not have a project on the table, transmits negative feelings in the orange party.

Just yesterday, the national spokesperson for Cs, Melisa Rodríguez, urged the Prime Minister to choose between negotiating Budgets conditioned by those who want to break Spain or with those who want public accounts for all Spaniards.

For now, the first of the conditions for secessionism - the holding in the first fortnight of September of a meeting of the negotiating table on the Catalan conflict - has not been met.

The meeting of said table promoted by ERC is not seen next given the political events that will take place imminently: the possible disqualification of the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra and the holding of the general policy debate in the Parliament.

Pedro Sánchez's decision dilutes for the moment the hypothesis of opening a negotiation to three in which the Government, ERC and Citizens are present.

The president prefers to distance both parties knowing that there is a red line between the two parties that neither of them seems willing to cross.

Thus, Iglesias, always a supporter of the independence and minority forces that gave the green light to Sánchez's inauguration, becomes the government voice that will try to attract Catalan and nationalist republicans in these first steps, while Sánchez himself and the vice president first, Carmen Calvo is reserved for contacts with other parliamentary forces.

Iglesias agrees with both ERC and Bildu on the need to design clearly expansive budgets, with a notable increase in spending that should be financed with a clear increase in taxes.
