Dörarp outside Ljungby has been a memorial for Metallica fans since the band overturned on the bus in September 1986 and band member Cliff Burton passed away.

In 2006, fans set up a stone in honor of the bassist.

It was last Saturday that the artists Filippa de Vos and Karin Karinsson set up the new work of art right next to the memorial stone - and the reactions were strong on social media, and have attracted international attention.

Many praised the work, while others saw it as a desecration of a place and the artist.

But after several commented that the artwork would be sabotaged, Krister Ljungberg, local historian who cherishes the memorial stone, chose to pack the work together in consultation with the artists.

Moved to moose park

Now it will be archived at the hotel and the elk park Laganland together with a large number of other objects left by fans over the years.

A decision made in agreement with the artists behind the work in question.

This is what Filippa de Vos says about the tumult that has taken place.

- Our ambition is to investigate death and as a metal fan, it was natural to start from that culture, says the artist Filippa de Vos, who is also the director of the art gallery in Växjö.

Some have reacted and think that you have destroyed a memorial site.

What do you think about it?

- A place of remembrance is for those who remember.

I know the metal world is conservative, but I do not think you can remember and pay tribute to anyone in the wrong way.
