A mother and her two-year-old son were disembarked from a Southwest Airlines plane from Fort Myers to Chicago, United States, on Saturday.

In question: the child took off his mask to eat before the aircraft took off, reports NBC2.

A woman traveling from Fort Myers, Florida, to Chicago said she was escorted off her Southwest Airlines flight on Saturday because her 2-year-old son was snacking prior to takeoff and wasn't wearing his mask.

The crew told the mother that this gesture was against the rules of the airline, which requires all passengers to wear a mask from the age of two.

She then explained to them that her son was going to hand it over during the flight.

“A few minutes later, we were taken to the boarding gate and asked to leave the plane,” she said.

An open internal investigation

Faced with this situation, Southwest Airlines declared that it would fully reimburse the passenger, relates

NBC2 according to a statement the channel viewed.

The company applies this rule to all its travelers as soon as they cannot wear their mask during the flight and for whatever reason.

In addition, an internal investigation was opened to try to understand what exactly happened this Saturday.

For their part, the mother and the child therefore had to take a flight again, at American Airlines this time, to reach Chicago.

She hopes this type of incident will not happen again in the future.
