This week we will have a

preview of the autumn weather

in Spain

.

A succession of fronts will leave rains from this Monday and a notable thermal decline from Tuesday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (

AEMET

).

The drastic change in temperatures occurs after a weekend marked by stability, slightly cloudy skies, high temperatures and just a few precipitations in the Cantabrian Sea.

The AEMET spokesman, Rubén del Campo has predicted a significant change, motivated by the arrival of a

storm

from the Atlantic that will be accompanied by a successive passage of fronts.

The result will be an increase in instability that will cause

showers and storms

in many areas of the Peninsula and possibly the Balearic Islands.

Some of them will even be locally strong and persistent.

Already on Tuesday or Wednesday it is also possible the arrival of fronts that will move towards the east, which will cause a generalization of

rainfall

over the Peninsula and it is likely that at the end of the week the rainfall will also affect the Balearic Islands.

However, he has admitted that the uncertainty is high regarding the position and the trajectory of the storm.

In any case, it is expected that the showers and storms will begin from this Monday in the interior of the peninsula.

A trough will cross the peninsula

This "important" time change will begin this Monday, when a

trough

arrives

that will cross the Iberian Peninsula from west to east.

As the spokesperson recalled, a trough is a region in the upper layers of the atmosphere with

cold air

and a pressure lower than that of its surroundings, factors (cold air and wind circulation) that are generated in the surroundings of the low pressures, which causes increased instability.

Ultimately, this will lead to a beginning of the week with

frequent rains

in large areas of the Peninsula, especially in Galicia, Castilla y León, Extremadura, Community of Madrid, western Castilla-La Mancha and Western Andalusia.

Del Campo has warned that rainfall may be "intense" in the south of the large mountain systems of these areas, although it will not rain or it will be in the form of very weak rains in the eastern Cantabrian, north of Aragon, north of Catalonia, coast Mediterranean and Balearic Islands, where it won't be until Tuesday when it rains.

On this Tuesday, he said that it will also rain in Galicia, Cantabrian communities and a good part of the northern half, although the rainfall will be weaker the further south and will not reach the southern tip of Andalusia.

COOLER THAN NORMAL TEMPERATURES

Regarding temperatures, the AEMET spokesperson has predicted a

"notable"

, "generalized" and "progressive"

drop

in temperatures throughout the week.

Specifically, this Monday they will drop significantly in the western half, although it will still be possible to exceed 32ºC in the eastern Cantabrian Sea and in the Ebro valley. This drop in thermometers will continue on Tuesday, except in the Mediterranean regions where they will rise and go from 32ºC indoors.

Already on Tuesday or Wednesday it is also possible the arrival of fronts that will move towards the east, which will cause a generalization of rainfall over the Peninsula and it is likely that at the end of the week the rainfall will also affect the Balearic Islands.

Although as of Wednesday the uncertainty in the forecast increases, the spokesman does not rule out rains "almost anywhere" in the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, although in principle they are more likely and intense in Aragon, Catalonia, Levante and the Balearic archipelago.
