Pierre Aidenbaum, deputy in charge of the Seine at the town hall of Paris, resigned from his post following accusations of sexual harassment against an employee, the town hall said on Monday.

"These facts were immediately reported to the Public Prosecutor," continued the City of Paris, in a statement.

Mr. Aidenbaum was PS mayor of the third arrondissement of Paris for 25 years.

According to the town hall, Mr. Aidenbaum submitted his resignation on Monday.

This is the second resignation against the backdrop of a sexual scandal facing the Paris executive since the establishment of the new municipal team in early July.

Iconic cultural assistant to Anne Hidalgo, Christophe Girard resigned on July 23 because of his links with the writer Gabriel Matzneff accused of pedophilia.

"The Municipality will remain intractable with all types of acts of moral or sexual harassment, whatever the quality of their author", underlined the town hall of Paris after the resignation of Mr. Aidenbaum, aged 78 years.
