Elected Secretary of State Suga as the new president of the Liberal Democratic Party and assumed office as prime minister September 14, 15:22

In the LDP presidential election to replace Prime Minister Abe, Secretary of State Suga was elected as the new president as a result of voting by members of the Diet and representatives of the prefectural federations.

Mr. Suga is expected to become the 99th Prime Minister after the Prime Minister's nomination election held at the plenary session of both Houses of Representatives on the 16th.
