Etihad Rail has reported that the construction works of the second phase of the national railway network, through four packages, will witness the construction of 37 tunnels, and 35 bridges specially designed for heavy cargo loads, including 22 tunnels within package (A), and 15 tunnels within package (D), With the aim of achieving the highest levels of smoothness of vehicle traffic under the tracks of the rail network.

And she stressed that the second phase of the project is witnessing great progress, especially in completing the utility services in Package (A), including electricity, steam, water and sewage installations.

In detail, Etihad Rail has confirmed that it is continuing the construction work for the second phase of the national railway network, which work began at the beginning of this year, at a cost of 18 billion dirhams, and for a distance of 605 kilometers, to be implemented through four packages, including 139 kilometers within the package (A ) To link the first phase in Ruwais with Al Ghuwaifat on the border with Saudi Arabia, which has been operating at full capacity since 2016, while some preliminary construction works for a series of freight stations for the railway network are being completed.

According to promotional videos, broadcast by the company on its official accounts on social media platforms, Package (B) extends from the second phase of the railway network, for a distance of 216 kilometers from Tarif to Saih Shuaib, while Package (C) extends for 94 kilometers from Jebel Ali to Sharjah, and finally Package (D) extends for a distance of 145 kilometers from Sharjah to the ports of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, to be followed by future packages to complete the network.

The company explained that in order to meet the plans for the growth of the national railway network, a main center for operation and maintenance is being established in the Al Faya area in Abu Dhabi, in line with the future directions of the Etihad Rail Company to provide a railway network that enhances and supports the growth of the national economy in the long term, noting that the main center for operation and maintenance is The largest and most important in the network, as it includes storage, equipping, operation and maintenance work for locomotives and cargo vehicles and a heavy vehicle warehouse with the tasks of controlling the entire main line operations in the network operations center inside the administrative building in Al Faya area.

The company added: “We have made great progress in building tunnels for utility services in Package A. These advanced tunnels will include electricity, steam, water, and sewage installations for the entire package service, while Package D of the second phase of the project, which extends over A distance of 145 km from Fujairah Port to Dubai and Sharjah. She stated that the diversity in the types of vehicles achieves greater flexibility and high capacity to transport various sizes of goods, and the frequency of the transport schedule, which contributes to reducing costs and increasing the efficiency of logistical operations for customers and network users.
