It was on August 23 that Polarbröd's bakery in Älvsbyn burned to the ground.

The company has now conducted an internal investigation to see what caused the fire and to find areas for improvement in its continued work.

The company believes that the investigation is important to avoid something similar happening again in its own or someone else's business.

They are written in a press release.

You caught fire in the oven

The investigation shows that the fire flared up on the swallow track - a 50 meter long tunnel where the bread is cooled down after baking.

The ventilation in the cooling track caused the fire to pick up speed and proceed quickly.

The construction of the Svalbanan made it impossible to extinguish.

The reason for the fire itself is probably that dough has caught fire in the oven and been transported on to the cooling track.

- The most important thing in our entire tragic event was that no one was injured.

The staff who were on site act exemplary.

The evacuation worked completely according to plan and there is nothing to complain about, says Group President Karin Bodin in the same announcement.

Fire protection met requirements

Polarbröd states that they have a systematic fire protection work, a fully automatic fire alarm and a fire protection that met all requirements.

They also write that these systems have been revised regularly and all staff are continuously trained.

The employees on site in the bakery reacted two minutes faster than the automatic fire alarm and thus saved emergency time.

Reviewing other activities

Polarbröd will now review the operations in Bredbyn and the experience will be taken to the new bakery that will be built in Älvsbyn in the same place as soon as possible.

Länsförsäkringar Norrbotten is now conducting a fire investigation and an insurance investigation.

These investigations are independent of each other.
