Maduro claimed to have arrested an "US spy" near the Venezuelan refinery, carrying "heavy special purpose" weapons, and was a member of the US Marine Corps

[Global Network Report] Agence France-Presse just reported that Venezuelan President Maduro announced the arrest of "American spies" near Venezuelan refineries.

"Russia Today" claimed that Maduro announced the arrest of an "American spy" carrying heavy weapons and cash near two oil refineries in the country's Falcon state.

The man is said to be a Marine, working for the CIA in Iraq.

According to reports, Maduro said in a televised speech on Friday (11th) local time that the spy was trying to collect information on the Amuai and Caton refineries.

The two refineries are located on the Paraguay peninsula south of Aruba along the Venezuelan coast.

According to the President of Venezuela, the detained American was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps who had cooperated with the CIA in Iraq and was captured with "heavy special weapons and large amounts of cash."

Maduro added that after the spy was arrested, he ordered the strengthening of the safety of all Venezuelan refineries.

Earlier, he said that the country’s oil department had discovered and frustrated a plan to “create an explosion” at the El Palito refinery in Carabobo, west of Caracas.

In his speech, Maduro also accused the United States of launching an economic war against Venezuela in an attempt to destroy Venezuela's oil industry.

"They have reached the point of madness." He said.

The report pointed out that the United States imposed an oil embargo on Venezuela, which severely hit Venezuela and reduced the latter's exports to the lowest level since 1943.

In addition, the United States has confiscated all the properties of the Venezuelan National Petroleum Corporation (PDVSA) and transferred them to the vaults of Guaido and its supporters.

Last month, a Venezuelan court sentenced two former US special forces to 20 years in prison.

The two previously confessed to training Venezuelan anti-government personnel and tried to sneak into Venezuela and capture President Maduro.

The United States does not recognize the government led by Maduro, and continues to "extremely pressure" the Venezuelan government in the political, economic, diplomatic, and military fields, and unites with some countries in Latin America to try to force Maduro to step down.

Guaidó proclaimed himself "Interim President" in January last year and won the support of the United States and other countries.

For more than a year, Guaido has launched a small mutiny and tried to win over military personnel. All attempts to seize power have ended in failure.
