According to him, the competition is conceptual and creative, but "in no way political."

“We are not going to demolish the mausoleum or take out Lenin's body.

We are trying to comprehend architecturally how the mausoleum can be used in the very situation when, after all, after 50 years Lenin's body will be taken out, ”he said.

The head of the Union of Architects added that the organizers, with the help of the competition, “are trying to collect a databank so that many solutions are already ready. 

Shumakov added that the union "is very worried about the fate of the mausoleum" and "advocate for its preservation."

Earlier it was reported that the Union of Architects of Russia began accepting applications for an all-Russian competition for the best concept of reuse of the Vladimir Lenin Mausoleum on Red Square.
