The moderates want to make it easier to forcibly take care of children whose parents are part of criminal gangs.

In Ekot's Saturday interview, M-leader Ulf Kristersson says that they want to give the police and prosecutors the authority to take care of children according to the Act on the Care of Young People, LVU.

But the proposal is opposed by the Social Democrats.

Minister of Social Affairs Lena Hallengren writes in a comment to Ekot that the police do not need more areas of responsibility.

"Children of gang criminals can already today be cared for by the social services with the support of LVU," she writes.

Professor questions the usefulness of the proposal

The Left Party is also critical and believes that care must be taken in a regulated and safe manner.

Pernilla Leviner, professor of public law at Stockholm University, is doubtful about the usefulness of the Moderates' proposal.

She says that LVU can already be applied today if the children get hurt because the parents are involved in criminal activities.

- But if what Kristersson means is that it should be possible to take care of children for preventive purposes so that the child is not recruited into criminal gangs, it is a completely different matter.

Then it can be the children who have to pay a very high price, Leviner says to TT.
