According to Jimmie Åkesson, the party is now ready to take the step into the Government Offices.

For the Sweden Democrats to support the next prime minister, budgetary influence is a minimum requirement, but Åkesson says that more than that is probably needed - ministerial posts.

- Yes, it's time now.

We have been in the Riksdag for ten years and I think we have shown that we are prepared to take responsibility, he says and adds that he hopes for a government collaboration with the Moderates and Christian Democrats after the 2022 election.

- And if you look at the municipalities where we govern or help the Moderates or Christian Democrats to govern - my impression is that you are very satisfied with those collaborations, he says.

Jimmie Åkesson further tells Dagens Nyheter that contacts with the Moderates and the Christian Democrats have developed radically in the past year, as he himself puts it.

He also says that he himself has good contact with both Ulf Kristersson and Ebba Busch.

- It is no secret that a relationship has developed between me and Ebba Busch and Ulf Kristersson in the sense that we reconcile things from time to time.

Personally, I think there are good conditions to agree on quite a lot, says Jimmie Åkesson.

Wants to be Minister of Justice

Should such a government become a reality, the Sweden Democrats and Jimmie Åkesson have their priorities clear.

- If you look at our profile questions, of course the Ministry of Justice is very interesting to us, says Åkesson who would like to have such a post himself.

- Yes absolutely.

Jimmie Åkesson also says that the party is also interested in energy issues and that it also aspires to a ministerial post at the Ministry of Finance.

- Any connection to the Ministry of Finance would also be reasonable.

Then it must be decided by the size of the parties and by who forms the government.

But you may not have to be Minister of Finance, there are other positions that can be linked to the Ministry of Finance with a more limited portfolio.

SVT has contacted the Moderates for a comment.

The Christian Democrats have declined.
