Prime Minister Jean Castex called on the French to "take responsibility" for the coronavirus on Friday, without announcing new drastic restrictive measures.

A choice that can prove to be risky, while the coronavirus epidemic continues to circulate on the national territory.

The government has made the choice of pedagogy.

Prime Minister Jean Castex on Friday called on the French to collective responsibility for "living with the virus" and thus avoiding a new "generalized confinement".

The executive did not announce any new drastic measures, such as the closure of bars or restaurants, while the Scientific Council had indicated that the government should "take difficult measures".

A bet that can prove to be risky, in full expansion of the coronavirus pandemic.

Coronavirus: follow the evolution of the situation

Create an "electroshock"

It was necessary to create an "electroshock": this is the stated objective of Matignon after the announcements of the Prime Minister on Friday.

Jean Castex did not unveil any restrictive measures, preferring to affirm a solemn will to make the French responsible.

"Today I solemnly appeal to the sense of responsibility of each and every one of you", he declared, asking "in particular the elderly to observe the greatest caution on a daily basis".

"We must break the chains of contamination", hammered the head of government.

A little earlier, in the secrecy of the Defense Council, Emmanuel Macron had asked for "responsibility and pragmatism" from his ministers, with the need not to "weaken the country".

In short: do everything to avoid a generalized reconfinement.

"Empowering the French, we've been trying for 6 months", worries an advisor

But is calling for responsibility sufficient and useful?

The Prime Minister leaves the hand to the prefects in the zones at the risk like Marseilles, Bordeaux or Guadeloupe.

"I asked the prefects concerned to offer me new additional measures by Monday," said the head of government.

The Minister of Health Olivier Veran will also take regular points to inform the French.

The pressure is mounting and Matignon is hoping it will be enough for the French to play the game and protect themselves against the virus.

But in the corridors of the ministries linked to the Covid, we remain a little cautious.

Observing the contaminations curves, an adviser worries: "Making the French responsible, we've been trying for 6 months".
