Mia Dia's 13-year-old daughter was beaten on Wednesday in central Umeå by a group of girls who then posted a film from the beating on social media.

- They had kicked and beaten her, spat on her and pulled her hair hard with both hands and shook her head, Mia says.

She continues:

- It was in the city, in the middle of people and no one is doing anything, it's terrible.

Not a new phenomenon

The abuse has been reported to the police but the phenomenon is not new, several parents that SVT has spoken to have had similar experiences, that the children have been abused by other children and that films from the abuse have been posted on social media.

One of the parents tells SVT that they made a police report but that it was closed, because the people involved were under 15 years old.

The advice they received from the police was that the child should not stay in town or answer when someone unknown called their mobile phone, but that they should call 112 if something happens.

- It is terrible that you should not be able to feel safe in the public space.

Sooner or later, they will have someone killed, because they are just children and it is a peer pressure where anything can happen, says the parent who wants to remain anonymous.

Another mother tells SVT about how the daughter was beaten last spring and had her nose broken by a group of girls who then posted the film from the incident on social media, in which case the investigation is still ongoing when one of those involved was over 15 years old .

Movies with strong content

SVT has taken part in many of the abuse and humiliation films that have been posted on social media during the year.

The common denominator is that these are children and young people, both boys and girls, in different parts of Umeå who jump on, threaten and hit other young people.

There are also elements of threats and revenge, it appears that some are abused because they have talked to their parents and others.

Police: "Has received a number of cases with films"

Karin Svedberg, a police officer with a focus on juvenile delinquency in Umeå, tells SVT that they know about the problem and that she has seen a number of cases where assault films have been posted online.

But she also says that it is difficult to prevent this type of crime.

- The parents here have a great responsibility, what do your children and young people do with their mobile phones and what do you spread on social media and that you talk to your children about it.

When asked what young people should do if they are exposed to similar treatments, Karin Svedberg answers:

- Of course, we want the police to tell an adult and that it is reported to the police so that we get a chance to investigate what has happened, if it does not come to our knowledge, it is very difficult for us to do anything.

SVT has tried to locate the photographers in the current films, but has not succeeded.
