Up to 13,000 people who previously lived in the now fire-ravaged Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos are now homeless.

According to MEP Malin Björk (V), Sweden and the EU must help those affected.

- They must be evacuated and distributed to other EU countries, she says.

- There are people, many children, who live there.

This is not a dignified way of life.

KD: Many have no grounds for asylum

According to MEP Sara Skyttedal (KD), the best solution is not necessarily to let the victims travel further into Europe.

- Yesterday, the European Commission found a solution for the most vulnerable children and brought them to the mainland, she says.

- But if you look at the camp, about 70 percent are there from Afghanistan, people who usually lack protection reasons and thus the right to asylum.

It is mainly about adult men.

On the other hand, I agree with Malin Björk that we should avoid ending up in this situation again.

It is a matter of not treating a refugee camp differently, but not creating this congestion in southern Europe with people who actually lack asylum grounds moving to the EU.

According to Sara Skyttedal, the EU's external border must be strengthened so that fewer people without asylum grounds take on the long and dangerous journey to Europe.

- It is human to be affected, but as a politician you must be able to keep a cool head and have a policy that lasts.

Criticizes the government

Malin Björk does not agree.

- I find it depressing that the situation in Moria today, with people sleeping on the streets and the 4,000 children in place, has turned into adult Afghan men who do not need protection.

We as a politician have a responsibility to create a policy that lasts.

She criticized the government for their inaction on the issue.

- It is reasonable that Sweden says that we are prepared to evacuate refugees from Moria, welcome here, we will steer this in a good way.
