According to the ministry, the St. Petersburg resident was allegedly involved in "conspiracy to use stolen personal data of US citizens to open fraudulent accounts on banking and cryptocurrency exchanges."

"The charges allege that Russian citizen Artyom Lifshits conspired with other people to steal Americans' personal data and use them to open fraudulent bank and cryptocurrency accounts," said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Demers.

Earlier, the United States imposed sanctions on three Russians and one Ukrainian in connection with the alleged "interference" in the American elections.

The sanctions list includes Russian citizens Anton Andreev, Daria Aslanova and Artyom Lifshits, as well as Ukrainian Andrei Derkach.
