“I am very proud to announce that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is heading this evening on a historic Doha trip to Qatar for the start of the inter-Afghan peace talks,” he said at a White House briefing.
Earlier, the Qatar Foreign Ministry announced that inter-Afghan peace talks would begin in Doha on September 12.
The US welcomes the start of negotiations and stands ready to provide support if needed.
