In January this year, Uppdrag granskning together with SVT Nyheter Gävleborg revealed serious misconduct on a dairy farm that delivered tens of thousands of liters to the dairy giant Arla every week.

These were extremely lean cows and animals that were forced to wade in their own feces.

The revelation provoked strong reactions.

After the district court decided on the reconstruction of the dairy farm, a number of drastic measures were implemented - among other things, a large number of cows were slaughtered and the farm was sold.

- The response was enormous from the viewers, while the industry tried to tone down the irregularities, says Lars-Göran Svensson, editor of Assignment review and the person behind the review together with reporters Ali Fegan and Cissi Eriksson Granér.

"More important than ever"

Arla has today stopped the sale of milk from the farm and tightened the routines on its affiliated farms.

The County Administrative Board of Gävleborg has received harsh criticism on social media and been notified by the Ombudsman.

The review is now nominated for the prestigious Prix Europa award in the "TV Current Affairs" category.

- This feels very fun, because the competition is fierce.

The question of how our food is produced feels more important than ever - and yet few reviews are made of animal husbandry in Sweden, says Lars-Göran Svensson.

Prix Europa is a prize that nominates the best radio, TV or online production of the year.

The winners in the various categories will be presented digitally on October 27.

You can watch Arlagården on SVT Play.
