It was on Tuesday morning that the accident between a car and a truck occurred on the E22 west of Jämjö - only about ten meters from the couple Maxon's plot.

- I see out of the corner of my eye that a truck is driving past, then we hear a terrible bang, says Susanne Maxon, who was outside the house when the accident occurred.

She ran towards the car that was on the road and called SOS Alarm.

The truck had overturned and the driver was trapped in the cab - at the same time it had started to burn under the vehicle.

While Susanne checked the driver of the car, her husband picked up a fire extinguisher in the house and put out the fire under the truck.

Then he smashed the glass on the cab so that the truck driver could get out.

- He stood on his own two feet.

He was shocked of course, but from what I could see it seemed to have gone well for him, says Susanne Maxon.

"They did everything right"

The driver of the car, a man in his 25s, had suffered such serious injuries that his life could not be saved.

- It is terrible and it has been very difficult both yesterday and today.

It will take time and digest this.

We have talked a lot with our loved ones and I have received support from work.

This is one of the worst things I have experienced, says Susanne Maxon.

The couple's actions at the scene of the accident are now being hailed by the rescue service.

- They did exactly the right thing based on the information I have.

It was a wise move and they did everything right.

They were on site before our first force and had then extinguished the fire under the truck, says Kent Hoff, rescue leader.
