"The Yekaterinburg garrison military court has passed a sentence in a criminal case against the spouses of Nikolai and Natalia Babarik, Artyom Zuev," the department said.

They were found guilty of organizing an extremist community, publicly calling for extremism and inciting hatred.

So, Nikolai Babarika in 2011, together with another person, created an extremist community called AUE, which included his wife and Zuev.

"In the period from November 2011 to May 2018, Nikolai Babarika published in the AUE community on the Internet about 30 thousand materials, including those containing calls for extremist activities," the prosecutor's office said.

The court sentenced Nikolai Babarika to 7 years in prison, Zuev to 3 years and 9 months in prison, and Natalya Babarika to a 4-year suspended sentence with a probationary period of 3 years.

In August, the Supreme Court declared the AUE movement extremist and banned its activities in Russia.

The decision was made at the suit of the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov.

* "Prisoners 'criminal unity" (AUE, "Prisoners' way is united", AUE) - the movement was recognized as extremist by the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of 17.08.2020.
