“We confirm that on September 8, 30 km from the city of Lagos (Nigeria), as a result of a pirate attack from the Water Phoenix vessel, two Russians were abducted,” the diplomatic mission said.
It is noted that in cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, efforts are being made to find out the location and release the hostages.
On the eve it was reported that the Russian Embassy in Nigeria is checking information on the possible capture of Russians by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea.
According to local media reports, pirates attacked the ship and kidnapped two Russians - a captain and a crew member.
It is noted that in total there were 18 people on board - seven Russians and 11 Filipinos.
