With less than two months left until the US election, 52 percent say they intend to vote for Democratic candidate Joe Biden, in a new national opinion poll from Reuters / Ipsos.

That is twelve percentage points more than the 40 percent who say they intend to vote for Donald Trump.

But the election is not decided by national vote but by electoral election, and Trump can be re-elected without having the majority of the vote.

Four years ago, Hillary Clinton received almost three million more votes than Trump, who still won the election.

According to Reuters, Trump also seems to be squeezing into crucial states.

Reinfeldt: "Anti-Trump"

Biden's campaign revolves around presenting himself as Trump's opposite, says Sweden's former Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt in Wednesday's episode of the Foreign Office.

Biden wants to be a candidate close to the center who can win broadly by being "decent", decent in Swedish.

- The contrast effect is extremely important.

It is as if it will be a personal election - an anti-Trump, says Reinfeldt, who has met Biden and who has recently released a book about the US election.

"Alright"

But decent has not won over all voters even in their own party.

Some young people further to the left rather read in the word "decents" other meaning, that something is normal.

- For me, decent means "completely okay", says Peg Parnevik, also a guest in the program and raised in the US.

- He will not destroy the country but he will not do anything completely revolutionary.

Corona-valet 2020

According to the new opinion poll, the corona crisis is the voters' most important issue.

28 percent answer that it decides their choice, and 51 percent of them say they believe Biden handles the crisis best, against 38 percent for Trump.

That Biden is seen as "anti-Trump" is supported by previous polls.

Last month, 56 percent of Biden voters said they would vote for him simply because he is not Trump.

At the same time, 31 percent of Biden voters were concerned about his age and health, compared with 1 percent of Trump's three years younger.

The first season of the autumn season of the SVT program The Foreign Office is new in the US election and Joe Biden's candidacy.
