The upsurge in Covid-19 cases in France does not go unnoticed across the Rhine.

Germany has decided to place three new French regions in the category of risk areas, announced Wednesday the benchmark health agency, Robert Koch Institut (RKI).

After Ile de France, Paris, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the regions of Occitanie, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes - as well as the island of Corsica, the only exception so far in Paca-, were classified as at risk.

Compulsory and quarantine test

This means that tourists returning from these territories will now be required to undergo a screening test on their return and remain in quarantine pending the result.

The German Foreign Ministry, therefore, warns against “unnecessary tourist travel” to regions considered “at risk”.

Other targeted regions in Europe

In addition to these French regions, the RKI also added the Swiss cantons of Geneva and Vaud, the Croatian region of Dubrovnik, the Czech capital Prague as well as regions in Romania and Bulgaria to its list.

Germany has recently increased the number of travel warnings, particularly to Brussels, part of the tourist coasts of Croatia and Spain, the favorite holiday destination of the Germans who go there every year. by millions.

The country, considered a model in its management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe, is on the alert in the face of a resurgence of new infections, considered to be partly linked to the return of vacationers.

On Wednesday, the RKI reported 1,176 new cases in 24 hours for a total of 9,338 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
