As the negotiations between Brussels and London slip away, France is preparing "for all scenarios" around Brexit, calling on the United Kingdom to "fully respect the exit agreement", said the spokesperson for the French government, Gabriel Attal, this Wednesday.

Negotiations between the European Union and the British resumed in an electric climate, London wanting to renege on certain commitments.

"We are ready to negotiate in good faith, but for that, it takes two," said Gabriel Attal at the end of a government seminar at the Elysee Palace.

An agreement that "violates international law"

"We are therefore waiting at the discussion table for an interlocutor in good faith," insisted the government spokesperson.

"In this context, we are preparing for all scenarios but our state of mind is to continue the discussion with (the EU negotiator) Michel Barnier", he added.

The EU will demand from the British an emergency meeting with the British after the publication on Wednesday of a bill which calls into question the customs arrangements concerning Northern Ireland.

By retoking a document having the status of an international treaty, this text intended to “clarify” points of the EU exit agreement “violates international law in a very specific and limited way”, according to the minister in charge. from Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis.
