Middle East: Israel and the United Arab Emirates reach an agreement to normalize relations
Defense: The United States reduces from 5,200 to 3,000 the military deployed in Iraq
A Norwegian parliamentarian has nominated US President Donald Trump as a
candidate for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize
for his support of the agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates,
Fox News Radio
reported today
.
The parliamentarian
Christian Tybring-Gjedde
, a member of the far-right Progress Party, is the promoter of that candidacy, as he explained to the chain itself, to which he said that the agreement between Israel and the Emirates is "very significant."
"It is a unique agreement"
, assures Tybring-Gjedde, who also mentions the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
The MP
already nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019
for his diplomatic efforts with North Korea.
Thousands of people can nominate candidates
for the Nobel Peace Prize, including members of parliaments and governments, university professors, and laureates in previous years.
The
Norwegian Nobel Committee
, charged with selecting the winner, has declined to comment on the proposal.
Trump said
last year
that he deserved to be awarded the Nobel
for his work in North Korea and Syria, but complained that he would probably never receive the honor.
Former President Barack Obama, Trump's nemesis, won the award in 2009, within months of starting his first term.
On August 13, Trump announced that Israel and the United Arab Emirates had agreed to establish diplomatic ties, as part of a comprehensive agreement by which the Israeli authorities will paralyze the annexation of occupied Palestinian territory.
In this way, the UAE becomes the
third Arab country to establish full diplomatic relations
with Israel, after Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994).
Donald Trump will host the signing ceremony of the so-called
Treaty of Abraham
at the White House
on September 15.
