The German Alexander Zverev, 7th in the world, qualified for the semi-finals of the US Open by beating the Croatian Borna Coric (32nd) 1-6, 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7 / 1), 6-3, Tuesday at Flushing Meadows.

At 23, Zverev, who reached this New York Major for the first time, will play against the Canadian Denis Shapovalov (17th) or the Spaniard Pablo Carreno (27th).

Coric, who remained on three wins in four oppositions against the German, got off to a better start, also taking advantage of the many unforced errors and double faults of his opponent.

After trailing 4-2 in the second set, Zverev recovered to force the decision in the tie-break, thanks to a service finally regained.

The same scenario emerged in the third set, Zverev showing even more solid in the decisive game.

Without particularly shining, Zverev then took advantage of the downturn of the Croatian to complete in 3 h 24 min a match where he seemed far from his usual level, but with the qualification at the end.

"I had to be a little more aggressive after my start, because what I was doing was not at the level of a Grand Slam quarter-final. So I was able to be consistent and in my head it was better ", Zverev explained.

He also finished stronger physically, reaping according to him "the fruits of a lot of physical work done in recent months during confinement".
