During a meeting on liquidation of the consequences of floods in the Irkutsk region in 2019, Putin stressed that it is necessary to ensure the safety of residents of the region and reduce the risks of flooding during floods.

He noted that “for this, as planned, dams and other significant structures should be built in full and on time”.

“As far as I remember, there should be 11 of them.

Over 5 billion rubles should be allocated for these purposes, about 1.1 billion from the regional budget and 4 billion from the federal budget, ”Putin said.

He drew Siluanov's attention to the importance of this issue.

“Anton Germanovich, I ask you to take this seriously and allocate the necessary resources in a timely manner,” the president said.

Putin also asked the government "in general to provide co-financing for the construction of facilities necessary to protect the territory of the Irkutsk region from flooding."

In turn, Siluanov said that "the necessary resources will be provided now when preparing the budget."

“We will provide finances in full,” the minister added.

The flooding in the Irkutsk region began at the end of June 2019 due to heavy rainfall.

As a result of the natural disaster, 25 people died, and seven more went missing.

At the end of June, the mayor of Tulun in the Irkutsk region, Yuri Karikh, spoke about the return of residents to the city, which suffered from the flood in 2019.

The total number of victims was more than 42.5 thousand people.
