“I want to inform you that the entire command staff of the police department has announced their resignation, including the chief of police,” she said during a city council meeting.

She did not rule out that there may be other layoffs in the police department.

Earlier, in Rochester, seven police officers were suspended from work in connection with the death in March of an African-American Pond after being detained. 

According to reports, Pond ran down the street without clothes in a state of drug intoxication and shouted that he was infected with the coronavirus.

During the arrest, the police put a bag over his head to protect others from spitting, and pressed him to the asphalt.

As a result, the man lost consciousness and was hospitalized.

He died in the hospital a few days later.

In early September, protests against racism took place in Rochester.
