The 2012 Olympic pole vault champion Renaud Lavillenie finished 2nd in the Ostrava meeting (Czech Republic) on Tuesday, improving his best performance of the season with a jump to 5.74m.

Renaud Lavillenie was beaten in the number of missed attempts by the Filipino Ernest John Obiena, but finished ahead of the two-time American world champion Sam Kendricks (5.64m).

Returning to competition only at the end of August after a fractured left thumb that occurred at the end of June, Renaud Lavillenie did better than in his first three competitions of the season (5.71 m in Pierre-Bénite on August 29, 5.72 m in Lausanne Wednesday, 5.62 m in Chorzow Sunday).

"I'm quite happy because it was not easy today, I was hoping maybe 5.80m but it's okay, he said in the mixed zone. I miss training, strength, speed, I know it. So in relation to my form the performance is good. I am improving from competition to competition ".

The former world record holder must now jump at the French Championships in Albi on Saturday and at the meeting in Rome on September 17.
