During a press conference following a visit to Damascus, Lavrov was asked about the reliability of Western media reports that Russia allegedly uses the Khmeimim airbase in the SAR for the transfer of mercenaries and weapons to Libya.

"And in Libya, and in other countries - from Africa to Europe, to the United States - there are always some accusations against Russia ... We have never been presented with any facts," he replied.

The Russian Foreign Minister also noted that such statements immediately get into the media without engaging bilateral mechanisms for resolving such issues.

“And the fact that any statements in this regard immediately fall into the media space, without using the mechanisms that exist both bilaterally and multilaterally to clarify any concerns on a particular topic, suggests what goals are being guided by the authors of such statements, ”Lavrov stressed.

He recalled that Russia supported the introduction of an arms embargo against Libya, unlike some other countries.

Lavrov also urged not to forget about the genesis of the conflict in Libya caused by the "criminal aggressive action of NATO."

At the end of May, the Libyan National Army called the reports of the American command of the Armed Forces in Africa that Russia allegedly transferred aircraft to Libya as strange.
